The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Eloise Hewitt

Nowadays, professional wrestling is equal to the most popular franchise known as the WWE or sometimes even the less known version which is known as TNA. Now although many people refer to this art as a form of entertainment nowadays, many people probably are not aware that this art has been used to kill people in olden times. Now if one is interested in how this art form evolved, he should take a look at the history of professional wrestling.

Now in every country, each race has their own form as grappling as it was a form of self defense for when they went to war and lost their weapons. Sometimes the men would even hold contests to prove who is better among all the competitors. Now this art did not just incorporate holds and locks but also strikes and kicks.

Probably the earliest record of this type of combat sport can be traced back to the time of ancient Greece. Now their form of grappling was named Pankration and was a hardcore art that was used to break the limbs of opponents during times of war. Now the race that was extremely good at Pankration were the greatest of warriors known as the Spartans.

Now contrary to what most people know, China is another place that is known for their grappling techniques. Because of the media, people think that the Chinese only have the flashy Kung Fu moves that can be seen in the Jackie Chan and the Jet Li movies. Now they did not just have these moves but they also had some really great grappling moves that are practical.

This form of grappling was known as Shuai Jiao and it focused more on take downs as well as some locks that would be used once the opponent is on the floor. Now it is this form of grappling that inspired the modern version known as Xanda. Xanda incorporates heavy take downs, some grappling moves, and of course a lot of kickboxing.

Now everyone probably knows the grappling style that comes from Japan. This style is known as Jiu Jitsu and is an art that many mixed martial arts practitioners would use in order to make their opponents tap out. Now Jiu Jitsu concentrates a lot on ground techniques wherein the ground would be the favourite position of the Jiu Jitsu practitioner.

Now in the modern world, Mexico has a very entertaining form of this combat sport. This Mexican sport is known as Lucha Libre which makes use of many high flying maneuvers like acrobatics and jumping from the ropes onto the opponents. Because of all these daredevil stunts, many people found this entertaining.

Nowadays, all of those styles have been incorporated into the ring or the main stage of wrestling which would be television. Television shows like WWE or TNA would showcase how this art has evolved over time and how people use it in the ring today. Even though modern wrestling today is actually scripted, it is definitely entertaining to watch.
